Klan Article T-Shirt

The Klan Article T-Shirt is one of the storytelling pieces within this collection. While conceptualizing a future where military efforts are shifted towards local threats of terror and ending hate groups in America, a question came about: What would cause the efforts to shift in this manner? Our answer was civil unrest. This shirt depicts a fake news article reporting on vigilante groups of Americans starting a genocide against the KKK, which in turn serves as a catalyst that leads to this future shift in governmental priorities to end hate groups. This in itself highlights and heightens a theme we wanted to explore, which is the disconnect between what citizens fight for vs what the government deploys troops for. The text within the piece are excerpts from an article by David J. Thomas PhD and Senior Research Fellow at the National Police Foundation, where he speaks about the history of how racism is interwoven with modern day American policing. We used Thomas’s words to not only show the truth of the matter but to provide a certain context as to why Black people themselves would feel the need to literally fight racism. Because the Black community as a whole serves as a target for those appointed by the government to protect and serve them.The black t-shirt has white silk screen graphics on the front and is made from a cotton, bamboo, rayon, spandex blend, making the shirt very soft and comfortable to wear.
